A Very Fine Mud Cleaner from PSD [25 June 2001] PSD have added a second MC80 compact mud cleaner to their rental fleet. The first MC80 has been out on hire with directional drilling contractor Verbraeken Construction nv since October 2000.
Jan Matthe from Verbraeken is so impressed with the performance of the unit and the cleanliness of the treated mud that he has used it on crossing after crossing and has even tankered mud from other sites for processing by the MC80. PSD are specialists in high quality, dry discharge mud cleaning and solids separation. They design and build large throughput capacity units that are rented out for use with Maxi rigs, diaphragm walling units and tunnelling and pipejacking machines. PSD's fleet includes mud cleaning plants of various sizes up to 750 m3 /hr capacity, desanders, desilters, ultra-fine desilters, flocculation systems and centrifuges including Europe's largest easily portable rental centrifuges. The increasing use of small HDD rigs and microtunnelling machines meant that there was a growing market for smaller mud cleaning machines and PSD identified that there was a need was for a small footprint, easily transported mud cleaner that would clean mud properly, so they designed the MC80. The 2760x1880x2431mm high MC80 uses a three speed, inverter controlled VSM300 linear motion high performance shaker, Svedala centrifugal pump and narrow taper hydrocyclones to achieve improved performance of up to 180% compared with similar sized equipment from other makers. It can process up to 80m3/hr of low viscosity mud, separate up to 20 tonnes per hour of suitable solids and reduce the sand content of the mud to ZERO.
